Butcher Jones to the Beeline OHV Route [CLOSED] is a 9.2 mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Fort McDowell, Arizona that features a lake and is rated as moderate. You can see a birds, boats, cacti, lizards a variety of wildlife sometimes wild horses drinking at the lake. We were invited to go to Butcher Jones Beach by a couple of friends and I thought it would be a great day for my husband and two kids. A little bit of elevation but very easy to manage. No thanks. There’s a little area where you can hike down towards the water and hangout.We enjoyed this trail a lot. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. Butcher Jones features a pleasant nature trail and a gently sloping beach which makes safe, gradual changes in depths adjacent to picnic area. The site was easy to find, and my family of 6 arrived at 7:30 a.m. to find the beach area with only 3 families. Butcher Jones Recreation Site has pristine waters that rival the Caribbean, and it deserves a top spot on your summer bucket list.
Bring sunscreen, water, and pack a lunch/snack- there’s a lot of great places to take a break and enjoy the views. Wild horses of Butcher Jones Beach are now at the Salt River this year.
Butcher Jones Beach, which can be reached by a road a few miles north of Saguaro del Norte, features swimming, picnic and restroom facilities. There were 10s of thousands flying around.

Its an easy trail with beautiful views of Four Peak, Saguaro Lake, and the Arizona landscape. It’s not worth it unless you like looking at beer cans, circle k cups and cactus for more then 2 miles cause the trail itself is actually 4. and be prepared to get pricked by at least a few plants because that’s how narrow it is. Dog friendly, kid friendly— just watch out for the trail edges as they have quite a bit of cacti to accidentally step on!Great trail, go early as it can get crowded.
