Definitely do-able as long as you have a mild lift plus 4 wheel drive for one specific incline section of the trail.Great trail love it went to the lake originally with my 2001 tundra instead of my jeep or other 4x4s didn’t air down just did it to see what my truck can do and did great 5speed 2WD truck made it one of the climbs I couldn’t crawl I had to floor it all the way up don’t recommend going into the washes tho if you don’t think you can make it out I usually have to use 4low but if your in a 2WD I recommend just staying on the trail to the end the trailers in great shape after a nice little steady rainOverall a fun trail, nice because it’s a quickie. We took some off-road trails to the water which was closed off as well. the one peak after you leave butcher jones looks a bit daunting but was no big deal. I completed this trail on my jeep rubicon 35 inch tires 5 inch lift 4x4 with no issues.Very cool trail that takes you down to the lake and one of the coves some very rocky areas very sandy areas the smoothest part of the trails are the lower parts and up on the ridge it’s much rougher You got to have a vehicle with some clearance four-wheel-drive is not a bad idea but I do see 2 Wheel Drive vehicles pick up trucks and such out thereAwesome as always make it as hard or easy as you want!Mostly easy (but we had a ZJ w/6" lift & 35s), with a few alternate hard lines here and there. I was in 2WD the whole trail until I chose the wrong path and had to put it into 4WD Low. took my lunch and some picks. This app is very very useful!very narrow trail.

The coves were fairly trashed from people but was nice otherwise. Butcher Jones Trail [CLOSED] is a 4.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Tortilla Flat, Arizona that features a lake and is rated as moderate. Watch out for ruts coming down the hill because there are a few deep ones that you can easily damage your front end with. Lol. definitely a confidence gainer for me. Beautiful area next to Saguaro Lake. Categories. Drive safely and take the corners slow. We need to find a group or some couples that do this. Very easy trail for both vehicles, with a nice little hill climb right in the middle.
This is a great fall, winter and spring trail.Cool little trail has a few challenges but over all pretty easy. Cantu wail to go here again. Butcher Jones OHV Trail [CLOSED] is a 26.1 kilometer moderately trafficked loop trail located near Fort McDowell, Arizona that features a lake and is good for all skill levels.
There was a decent amount of traffic on this trail, more than we've seen on any others, but we've never had an issue finding a spot to post up and enjoy the lake.awesome jeep trail, def need good clearance to complete.
Once through the green gate almost any capable off-road vehicle can make the journey to the coves via a network of un-maintained dirt roads, hills and washes. The washes were dry and on of the best parts. Did try a few off shoots after going too far up the left side of the wash once we started. Cove 3 and 4 are our favorites! Nice views of the lake too! I ran in 4 high the whole time due to I'm heavy and didn't want to lose traction in the loose stuff. Unavoidable rocks make for a rough ride that has only gotten worse with high traffic from OHV and side by side. For the most part I would consider it easy with the exception of a couple climbs. The trail starts out nice and wide and then narrows in the middle so if you are running a full size rig you will get pinstriped.
